Jouni Bäckström


Jouni Bäckström is a baritone singer, composer and actor. He gained a Bachelor of Culture and Arts, studied singing at the Conservatory of Helsinki (2002–2006) and at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (2008–2013), acting and physical comedy at the Open University of the Finnish Theatre Academy in (2008–2014), as well as composition at the Tampere University of Applied Sciences (2003–2010).

Jouni has worked as a soloist with the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, chorus singer at the Finnish National Opera as well as a guest actor at the Finnish National Theatre. He has composed and directed music for several plays, including Valpurinyö at the Finnish National Theatre and Woyzeck at the Kokkola City theater. Plays that Bäckström has composed music for have won the special Jury Prize of the FIST Festival in 2006 and 2008. His compositions have been performed at the Tampere Biennale and at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. In 2014 Jouni sang the highly praised role of Lahtinen in the opera Unknown Soldier in Oulu City Theatre.
