Sarah Devoyon

Born in 1995 in a family of musicians in Paris, Sarah Devoyon is studying music education in Sibelius Academy, Finland. She graduated as Bachelor of Music in 2017 and will achieve her Master Degree within the university year 2019-2020. In her major instrument cello her teacher is Professor Raimo Sariola. In April 2019 she held her A Level Master Degree Concert in cello performance and has also completed D Level in piano in 2016 as well as in pop-jazz-singing 2017. Sarah spent the spring semester 2018 studying in Erasmus Exchange Program in the Conservatory of Lyon (CNSMD de Lyon, France) in the class of Professor Yvan Chiffoleau.

In addition to cello playing Sarah has studied classical piano, viola, electric bass, guitar, clarinet and classical and pop singing. In master classes she has been instructed i.a. by David Cohen, Sun-Won Yang, Young-Chang Cho, Martti Rousi, Marko Ylönen, Heikki Rautasalo, Paavali Jumppanen, Konstantin Bogino, Marie-Paule Milone and Tuomas Lehto.

Sarah is also an active chamber musician. In 2007 she won the 2nd Prize in the Erkki Melartin chamber music competition, Finland, and in March 2013 the 1st Prize in the Juvenalia chamber music competition, Finland. She has been the principal cello of the Tapiola Youth Symphony Orchestra and has performed as soloist and chamber musician in Finland, Estonia, France, Latvia, Italy, Portugal and China. In autumn 2010 she was selected to the Jean Sibelius Orchestra, conducted by maestro Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

Sarah has been singing in the world famous Tapiola Choir and is actually a member of EMO Ensemble chamber choir. She has also studied Music Theatre in the Finnish National Opera training and has played various roles in musical productions. During 2019 Sarah participates to a large-scale concert tour with the famous Finnish rock band Paul Oxley’s Unit.

This is the first time Sarah performs at the Mänttä Music Festival.
