Silja Levander graduated in 2016 from the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm where her professor was Staffan Scheja. During her studies she was awarded scholarships from Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien, the First St. Johannis- freemason lodge and the Finnish Cultural Foundation’s main fund. Before moving to Sweden, Silja studied in Turku, finishing her B.A. in classical piano and music pedagogy in 2014 after another B.A. in fashion design (2009).
Nowadays Silja is an active pianist on and off stage, performing and teaching. She resides in the municipality of Nacka in Sweden and has for the past two years received funding for her contribution to its cultural life. She also designs and manufactures creations from burlesque outfits to ready-to-wear clothing and has been a freelancing radio presenter at Sveriges Radio’s Sisu- channel.
Silja’s goal is to combine all of her areas of expertise and this year her role at the Mänttä Music Festival is a diverse one: she’s the producer, presenter and pianist of the pop up- concert series.
