Risto-Matti Marin (b. 1976) "has quietly and without making a fuss risen to the top of our pianists" - Risto Nordell, Suomen Kuvalehti
Risto-Matti Marin is known for his wide repertoire, ranging from the Baroque masters to contemporary music. His recordings, especially of transcriptions and piano rarities, have attracted international attention. He has also premiered a wide range of contemporary Finnish music.
Marin is active as a concert pianist, teacher and recording artist. His recent projects include premiere recordings of Finnish Romantic piano works and a complete recording of August Stradal's Liszt transcriptions.
Marin's concert offers a rare opportunity to hear the music of Johann Sebastian Bach both in its original form and in arrangements by composers from different periods. Aria and Preludes and fugues from the Goldberg Variations will be in dialogue with arrangements by Finnish composers such as Ilmari Hannikainen and Erkki Melartin, as well as international masters such as Ferruccio Busoni.
Risto-Matti Marin, a master of piano transcriptions, brings out the timeless beauty and multi-dimensionality of Bach's music.
Artistic director of the Mänttä Music Festival, Niklas Pokki, will give an introduction to the concert (in Finnish) in the Kivijärvi hall at 14.30. The concert ends approximately at 16.10.
