“Something in his Bach is very unique– not peculiar, just very natural and I think he could be remembered as one of the great Bach players of our time.” - Gary Graffman
Finnish pianist Anton Mejias is on a tremendous international rise. He has a special relationship with Bach: this phenomenal talent mastered the 24 preludes and fugues of the composer's Das Wohltemperierte Klavier I at the age of 10. After studying in Finland, first with Meri Louhos and later with Teppo Koivisto and Niklas Pok, Mejias was admitted at the age of 18 to one of the most demanding institutions in the world, the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, considered a school for geniuses, where he immediately attracted positive attention.
His career in the US has taken off to a flying start. Mejias, who has just turned 23, has made his debut at the Hollywood Bowl as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Klavierfestival Ruhr in Germany. The Mänttä concert will feature J.S. Bach's French Suites 1-6, whose dance parts form a varied, entertaining and moving ensemble.
Artistic Director of the Mänttä Music Festival Niklas Pokki introduces the concert in the Kivijärvi Hall at 12:30 (in Finnish). The concert ends approximately at 14:15.
